Bipa announces 100 million euro investment and expansion plan
Austrian drugstore chain Bipa has announced an extensive investment program for the period 2027 to 2030, totaling over 100 million euros. The strategy focuses on expanding and renovating store locations both in Austria and through targeted growth in Romania. In its home market, Bipa aims to increase the size and modernity of its retail spaces rather than simply increasing the number of locations. The company also plans to roll out self-service checkouts following successful trials in high-traffic stores.
Bipa recently surpassed one billion euros in revenue for the first time in 2024. This growth is supported by a strong emphasis on private label brands. In a related development regarding product standards, Greenpeace confirmed that Bipa is the only retailer in the Austrian drugstore market to have internal mandates prohibiting per- and polyfluorinated alkyl substances (PFAS) in its private labels, such as 'bi good' and 'Bi Care'. These 'forever chemicals' are noted for being non-biodegradable and potentially harmful to health.
