Birati: SFI meeting disrupted amid allegations of vandalism

Political tension erupted in Birati, North 24 Parganas, on Friday night following the disruption of a meeting organized by the Students' Federation of India (SFI). Despite having police permission, the meeting at Banik More was reportedly targeted by individuals who attempted to stop the proceedings.

SFI members alleged that the stage, chairs, and microphones were vandalized and banners were torn. They claimed that threats were made to prevent the setup of the event, leading to verbal altercations and physical scuffles. CPM leader Sujan Chakraborty visited the site to protest the incident. SFI leaders have accused the BJP of orchestrating the disruption.

Local BJP MLA Sourav Shikdar denied any involvement, stating that the party is being falsely blamed. He claimed that local residents had expressed grievances regarding potentially controversial or anti-national remarks that might have been made at the meeting. Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
