Bird of the Year 2027 voting begins

Voting has opened for the ‘Bird of the Year 2027’ title, a tradition maintained for over 50 years by the Naturschutzbund Deutschland (Nabu) and the Landesbund für Vogel- und Naturschutz (LBV) in Bavaria. While conservation organizations select the finalists, the public has been able to vote for the winner since 2021.

The five candidates represent specific conservation themes: the common raven, the crane, the house martin, the European pied flycatcher, and the water dipper. The house martin, for instance, is currently listed as endangered. The selection process aims to draw public attention to the protection of these species. Voting remains open online until October 15 at 11:00 AM, with the winner to be announced later that same day.
