Bird Sanctuary of Shuswap removes online presence amid fraud concerns

The Bird Sanctuary of Shuswap (BSS), a registered non-profit society, has removed its website and Facebook presence following community concerns regarding its fundraising and objectives. The organization had previously stated intentions to acquire 30 acres of land in the Larch Hills area and purchase specialized equipment for birds with disabilities.

Local community members and the Salmon Arm Bay Nature Enhancement Society (SABNES) have raised fraud warnings, with some online searches returning an ‘Important Scam Alert’. A planned fundraising event, ‘Diva for a Day’, scheduled for October 17 in Salmon Arm, has been cancelled.

In an email response, the BSS stated it is taking ‘legal action concerning matters that have harmed our name and reputation’ and is contacting the National News Media Council regarding potential publications.
