Bird Studio, former workspace of Akira Toriyama, is being demolished
The Bird Studio in Kiyosu, Aichi Prefecture, which served as the primary workspace for Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama, is undergoing demolition. The studio was the central hub where Toriyama developed his iconic characters and managed professional communications with major industry partners such as Toei, Shueisha, and Bandai.
While the physical building is being removed, the Bird Studio entity is expected to remain active under the responsibility of Toriyama’s estate. Corporate records indicate the studio's registered address has already been moved to the Minami-Aoyama district in Tokyo. The transition follows the appointment of Akio Iyoku as director.
Kazuhiko Torishima, a former editor who worked with Toriyama on Dr. Slump and Dragon Ball, expressed sadness over the loss of the site, noting it was a place he visited monthly where many works were born. Although there are plans for a memorial dedicated to Toriyama, it is not currently indicated that such a tribute will be built on the original studio grounds. Reasons for the demolition have not been officially disclosed, though speculation includes inheritance tax considerations or the desire to avoid turning the residential area into a tourist site.
