Birdwatching hotspots Nordhavnstippen and Tornby Klitplantage draw enthusiasts in Denmark
Nordhavnstippen, a protected area beside the former metro construction site in Copenhagen, supports a rich avian life. According to Nicolai Halvorsen of the Danish Ornithological Association, up to 30 species can be observed, ranging from raptors such as the tower falcon (tårnfalke), sparrowhawk, and buzzard to waterbirds like swans, geese and various ducks. The mix of open fields, scrub, ponds and the nearby harbour creates ideal feeding and resting spots for both resident and migratory birds.
In northern Jutland, the local branch of Denmark's Nature Conservation Association runs evening bird tours in Tornby Klitplantage. The July 17 night walk invites participants to watch active birds after sunset and listen for the rare night raven (natravn), a nocturnal species surrounded by folklore. The event also highlights a nearby solar‑panel project that aims to preserve biodiversity under the installations.
