Birgi railway station construction closes SP21 segment in Trapani, Italy

From 6 August 2026 a 250‑metre stretch of the provincial road SP21 (km 11+600 to 11+850) will be closed to allow the building of a new railway stop at Birgi and an under‑pass linking it to the Vincenzo Florio airport. The closure was announced by Salvatore Quinci, president of the Libero Consorzio Comunale di Trapani, who said the works are part of a broader strategy to improve airport access and stimulate regional development.

Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI) and the contracted construction firm have set up a clearly signed alternative route to minimise disruption for motorists. Funding includes €5 million from a €21 million surplus of the free administration, earmarked for extraordinary provincial road maintenance.
