Birgit Möhring, head of Berlin's BIM, has died

Birgit Möhring, the managing director of the state-owned Berliner Immobilienmanagement GmbH (BIM), has died at the age of 63 following a serious illness. The company announced her passing on August 15.

Möhring was a central figure in Berlin's real estate management, having helped shape the company since its founding. BIM is responsible for managing over 5,000 properties across the city, including schools, government buildings, and cultural landmarks such as the Brandenburg Gate and the Red City Hall. The organization currently faces a renovation backlog estimated at 5.5 billion euros.

The company's leadership is now vacant, as the other half of the dual management team, Dr. Matthias Hardinghaus, was dismissed approximately one month ago. BIM stated that the supervisory board, chaired by State Secretary Wolfgang Schyrocki, had already begun planning a future-oriented restructuring of the management team in July. The company maintains that it remains operational despite the vacancy.
