Birhanu Legese and Irine Cheptai to headline 21st Delhi Half Marathon
The 21st edition of the Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon, a World Athletics Gold Label road race, is scheduled for October 18 in New Delhi. The event features an elite international field led by Ethiopia’s Birhanu Legese and Kenya’s Irine Cheptai.
Legese, boasting a personal best of 58:59, headlines a men’s lineup that includes seven athletes with sub-60-minute personal bests. Competitors include Kenya’s Charles Matata, the 2023 runner-up, as well as Ethiopians Deriba Tesfaye and Melaku Belachew. In the women’s category, Irine Cheptai leads the field with a personal best of 64:53.
The total prize purse for the event is USD 275,732, with winners in each category receiving USD 27,000. Prize money will be awarded to the top 10 finishers in both categories, with additional incentives for the top Indian runners and a USD 12,000 bonus for any athlete who breaks the existing event record.
