Birigui implements school garden project for environmental education

The city of Birigui has launched the ‘Hortas nas Escolas’ (School Gardens) project to promote environmental education and healthy eating habits. Developed through a collaboration between the Municipal Secretariats of Education and Environment, the initiative aims to transform school grounds into living laboratories where students engage in the full cultivation process, from soil preparation to harvesting.

The project is currently active in three municipal educational units: Escola Municipal Ruth Pintão Lot, Escola Municipal Prof. Dario Angelo Tantin, and the Centro de Educação Infantil Profa. Aparecida Clauria Bearari Benassi. The municipality plans to expand the program to additional institutions across the school network to foster ecological responsibility and improve the quality of school meals.
