Birmingham City Schools adds $2.5M in annual administrative pay
Birmingham City Schools (BCS) is implementing approximately $2.5 million in annual recurring compensation increases for school and district administrators. The pay adjustments target assistant principals, principals, instructional superintendents, officers, chief officers, and the district's general counsel.
The district stated that the increases are intended to improve recruitment and retention, noting that it has lost several assistant principals to neighboring school systems that offer more competitive salary schedules.
These changes are part of a newly approved $544.97 million budget for fiscal year 2027, which is $63.67 million larger than the previous year. The administrative pay raises come as the district prepares for a decline in student enrollment, a factor that influences state funding and the number of available state-funded positions for teachers and counselors.
