Birmingham entities adopt sustainable HVAC and decarbonisation technologies

Haier HVAC Solutions has been named the official HVAC partner of Birmingham City football club. The partnership aims to enhance facilities at the club’s existing St Andrews stadium and support future developments within the Birmingham Sports Quarter, which includes a planned 62,000-seat stadium scheduled for 2030. Haier intends to showcase sustainable, energy-efficient climate technologies as part of the city’s evolving infrastructure projects.

In a separate sustainability initiative, Birmingham City University has successfully implemented a heat pump-led decarbonisation project at its School of Health Sciences. Through a collaboration between SHEco Renewable Systems, Kooltech, and Mitsubishi Electric, the university replaced gas heating with air source and water-to-water heat pumps. This value-engineering process reduced the project cost by £2 million against the original tender. The project, supported by the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme, provides over 1MW of heating and cooling and is part of a wider £3.3 million programme to reduce the university’s carbon footprint.
