European Athletics Championships to be held in Birmingham

The 27th European Athletics Championships will take place at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham from August 10 to 16, 2026. The event features over 1,500 athletes from 49 countries competing for 50 medals.

Major international stars are expected to compete, including pole vaulter Armand Duplantis, long jumper Miltiadis Tentoglou, and sprinting ace Gina Lückenkemper. High-profile competitors such as Marcell Jacobs, Nadia Battocletti, and Gianmarco Tamberi are also set to represent Italy, which is sending its largest contingent to date.

National delegations are heavily invested in the championships: Turkey is sending 50 athletes, including 16 from Fenerbahçe, while Germany is fielding 116 athletes. Finland and Greece are also sending significant teams, with Finnish hammer throwers Silja Kosonen and Krista Tervo and Greek long jumper Miltiadis Tentoglou among the notable entries.

Beyond the competition, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) has issued recommendations for broadcasters to avoid sexualized camera angles during women's events, urging a focus on technical performance and athletic narrative rather than suggestive shots.
