Birmingham film scene experiences significant growth

The film industry in Birmingham and the greater Jefferson County area is experiencing significant growth. Over the last three decades, the region has hosted major productions such as ‘Space Jam’, ‘Borat’, and ‘42’. More recently, Hollywood films including ‘The Rivals of Amziah King’ and ‘The Girlfriend’ have utilized the city as a filming location.

Local talent continues to gain recognition on a global scale, exemplified by Birmingham-born director Daniel Scheinert of ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’. While major productions draw attention to the area, local creators remain the foundation of the community. Emerging filmmakers, such as Je’Don Holloway-Talley, who recently premiered the romantic comedy ‘Funny Feelings’ at the American Black Film Festival, are actively expanding the local scene and advocating for increased access for new creators.
