Birmingham fires cause station evacuation and park blaze

On July 10, a fault on a train at Birmingham New Street station sparked a fire that led to a full‑scale evacuation of the hub. Rail services to and from the station were temporarily suspended, and passengers were directed to National Express buses, which accepted rail tickets on routes such as 11A/C, 14, 23, and others. The station later reopened, but delays persisted as services returned to normal.

Later that evening, a separate fire broke out in Henry Barber Park in the Bordesley Green area after recent grass mowing. About a dozen West Midlands firefighters responded, extinguishing the blaze by 7 p.m. No injuries were reported.

Both incidents prompted safety alerts from local authorities and temporary disruptions to transport and recreation in Birmingham.
