Birmingham Royal Ballet performs Swan Lake at the Hippodrome

The Birmingham Royal Ballet’s production of Swan Lake at the Birmingham Hippodrome has received acclaim for its storytelling and emotional depth. Directed by Sir Peter Wright, the production is noted for its clear narrative, which explores the complexities of Prince Siegfried’s character following the death of his father.

Performances by Mathias Dingman as Prince Siegfried and Momoko Hirata as both Odette and Odile have been highlighted. Dingman’s portrayal is described as embodying strength and endurance, while Hirata is noted for her ability to convey both the fragility of the white swan and the seductive nature of the black swan. The production utilizes detailed set and costume design, ranging from austere, somber tones in the opening scenes to the sumptuous gold and red opulence of the Act III ballroom.

Other notable performers include Yasiel Hoderlín and Riku Ito, with the latter providing a joyful contrast to the Prince’s brooding demeanor.
