Birmingham schools named top national academic-athletic powerhouses

Three high schools in the Birmingham, Alabama area have been recognized in a national ranking by Rivals and On3 as top academic-athletic powerhouses. The Birmingham region accounted for 30 percent of the top 10 list.

Mountain Brook High School was ranked third nationally for its combination of elite academics and strong football and basketball programs. Homewood High School secured the number two spot, noted for its academic standing and six AHSAA state football titles. Vestavia Hills High School was ranked ninth, recognized for its academic success and various state titles in sports such as baseball, wrestling, and soccer.
