Birol Altınkılıç, founder of Kahve Dünyası, dies at 66

Birol Altınkılıç, the founder and Chairman of Altınmarka Group and the coffee chain Kahve Dünyası, has passed away at the age of 66. Altınkılıç died following a sudden heart attack while in Monte Carlo, Monaco, where he had been celebrating his birthday with his family.

Altınkılıç was a prominent figure in Turkey’s food and cocoa sectors. He founded Altınmarka Group in 1992, growing it into a major international player in cocoa processing and industrial chocolate production, serving global brands such as Nestle and Ferrero. His group operates eight companies and nine factories, holding a significant share of the Turkish cocoa market.

In the retail sector, he established Kahve Dünyası in the early 2000s, expanding it from a single store in Istanbul to a global chain with over 200 branches across Turkey, the United Kingdom, Romania, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia. In 2020, Altınkılıç was featured on the Forbes ‘Richest 100 Turks’ list with an estimated net worth of $500 million.
