Birra del Borgo brewery faces closure in Borgorose

Italian lawmakers are calling for urgent intervention to prevent the closure of the Birra del Borgo brewery in Borgorose, Rieti, following a collective dismissal procedure initiated by Anheuser-Busch InBev.

Nicola Ottaviani, secretary of the Chamber's Budget Committee, has requested a meeting at the Ministry of Economic Development to discuss the fate of the 21 workers involved. Ottaviani noted that new investors have reportedly expressed interest in acquiring the plant to maintain jobs and restore the brand's original artisanal identity. He urged AB InBev to explore all alternatives to closure to avoid negative impacts on the local territory.

Similarly, Walter Rizzetto, president of the Chamber's Labor Commission, has filed an inquiry regarding the site's industrial prospects. Rizzetto highlighted concerns over the progressive reduction of production volumes and commercial channels assigned to the plant. He has called on the Minister of Labor to facilitate discussions between the company and trade unions to safeguard employment levels and evaluate social safety net options.
