Biryani popularity rises in Japan via convenience stores and specialty shops

The popularity of Indian biryani is growing in Japan, driven by both convenience store offerings and specialized local shops.

Seven-Eleven has released a new version of its ‘Eric South supervised biryani,’ featuring bone-in chicken drumettes. Despite a price increase to 753 yen, the product has seen high demand due to its use of authentic basmati rice, spice blends like cinnamon and cloves, and the inclusion of side dishes such as roasted onions and vegetables.

In Tokyo’s Okachimachi district, Eusa Halal Mart offers an authentic chicken biryani for takeout at 690 yen. The dish is noted for its large volume, three-colored basmati rice, and the inclusion of whole spices like cinnamon and pandanus, providing a high-quality, traditional experience for consumers.
