Biscarrosse wildfire: Wildlife monitoring shows varying recovery rates
Following a major wildfire in the Biscarrosse forest massif in the Landes region, the Fédération des chasseurs des Landes (FDC40) has begun monitoring wildlife recovery using a long-term observation protocol.
Initial data indicates varying impacts on local species. The presence index for roe deer has seen a slight decrease from 0.68 to 0.58 animals per kilometer. Conversely, the hare population has seen a significant increase, with an index rising from zero prior to the fire to 2.63 hares per 10 kilometers, benefiting from the sudden opening of the landscape.
