Bishan Singh Bedi: The legacy of India's legendary spin bowler

Bishan Singh Bedi, the renowned Indian left-arm spin bowler, was born on September 25, 1946. Known for his exceptional control, flight, and ability to vary pace, Bedi remains one of the most artistic bowlers in cricket history. Over his first-class career, he claimed 1,560 wickets, and he was the first Indian bowler to reach 200 wickets in Test cricket.

In Test cricket, Bedi played 67 matches, taking 266 wickets and recording 14 five-wicket hauls. He also captained the Indian team in 22 Test matches. One of his most notable moments occurred during a 1978 ODI against Pakistan in Sahiwal. Frustrated by what he perceived as unfair umpiring and a series of uncalled wide bouncers from bowler Sarfaraz Nawaz, Bedi made the controversial decision to call his batsmen off the field, effectively sacrificing a match that India was close to winning.
