Bishop Carlos Briseño Arch linked to Puebla Archdiocese vacancy
Speculation has emerged within ecclesiastical circles regarding Carlos Briseño Arch, the Bishop of Veracruz, as a potential candidate to lead the Archdiocese of Puebla. This follows the formal resignation of Archbishop Víctor Sánchez Espinosa, who submitted his resignation to the Holy See after reaching the canonical age of 75.
Aurelio Mojica Limón, spokesperson for the Diocese of Veracruz, has urged calm, stating that there are currently no official documents or declarations from the Vatican confirming Briseño Arch’s candidacy. He characterized the rumors as "speculations" and noted that such discussions are common during diocesan transitions.
Limón cited previous instances where widespread speculation regarding successors proved incorrect, noting that official appointments by the Vatican can often be unexpected.
