Bishop Carlos Tissera resigns from the Diocese of Quilmes

Bishop Carlos Tissera has formally submitted his resignation to Pope Leo XIV, following the requirements of the Code of Canon Law after reaching the age of 75. The announcement was made during a mass at the Basilica of Luján on Sunday, September 13, amidst the 48th diocesan pilgrimage.

Approximately 8,000 faithful from Quilmes, Berazategui, and Florencio Varela gathered for the event, which also marks the beginning of the Diocese of Quilmes' 50th anniversary celebrations. During his homily, Tissera reflected on the history of the diocese and addressed current economic challenges facing local families, such as unemployment and insufficient wages.

While the resignation has been presented, Tissera will continue to govern the diocese until the Vatican officially accepts the resignation and appoints a successor or apostolic administrator.
