Bishop Cesare Di Pietro installed as head of Locri-Gerace Diocese
On 25 July 2026, Monsignor Cesare Di Pietro officially began his episcopal ministry in the Diocese of Locri‑Gerace during a solemn Mass at the Basilica Concattedrale di Gerace. The ceremony was attended by clergy, civil officials, military representatives and faithful from across the Locride region and Sicily.
The Apostolic Nuncio to Italy and Malta presided over the installation, underscoring the event’s ecclesiastical importance. Local authorities, including Lorenzo Festicini, the child‑rights guarantor of the Metropolitan City of Reggio Calabria, welcomed the new bishop, noting his “high doctrinal profile and pastoral sensitivity” as a strong reference for the community.
Don Nicola Commisso Meleca, director of the diocesan liturgical office, described the installation as a “spiritual celebration that strengthens the bond between the faithful and their shepherd.” Festicini added that the Church and civil institutions will cooperate to combat school dropout, youth distress and marginalisation, positioning the new bishop as a key partner in protecting children and promoting social development.
