Bishop Crispin Varquez to be installed as Tagbilaran bishop
Bishop Crispin “Bai” B. Varquez will be formally installed as the eighth bishop of the Diocese of Tagbilaran on Tuesday, October 27, at the St. Joseph the Worker Cathedral Shrine. Varquez has requested a simple, low-key ceremony without elaborate street decorations to emphasize the religious nature of the occasion.
A native of Sevilla, Bohol, the 65-year-old bishop returns to his home province after serving 19 years as the bishop of the Diocese of Borongan in Eastern Samar. He succeeds Cebu Archbishop Alberto S. Uy. The installation mass is expected to include Cardinal Jose Advincula, who will deliver the homily, and Apostolic Nuncio Archbishop Charles John Brown, along with over 45 bishops and hundreds of priests.
Following the installation, a liturgical welcome is scheduled for Wednesday, October 28, at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Seminary, followed by a civic reception hosted by the Bohol provincial government.
