Bishop Erik Varden discusses spiritual awakening in Norway

Bishop Erik Varden, a Cistercian monk and the Bishop of Trondheim, has recently published two books focusing on the importance of the 'hidden life' and monastic traditions. His works, ‘Introduction à la vie cachée’ and ‘Illuminés d'une gloire cachée’, explore the monastic foundations of European civilization and gather spiritual meditations he delivered to the Roman Curia during a Lenten retreat.

In reflections on his spiritual journey, Varden discusses his conversion to Catholicism in 1993 and his entry into the Trappist order in 2002. He describes a perceived spiritual awakening within Norway and emphasizes the necessity of an interior life as a foundation for meaningful public action and spiritual discernment in a modern age.
