Bishop Giurdanella criticizes migrant rejection in Mazara del Vallo

Monsignor Angelo Giurdanella, the Bishop of Mazara del Vallo, has issued a message regarding the city's patron saint, San Vito, during the annual Festino celebrations. In his reflection, the Bishop emphasized the importance of peace, social justice, and human dignity.

Giurdanella specifically addressed the issue of migration, stating that the term “respingimento” (rejection/pushback) is “antievangelica e disumana” (anti-evangelical and inhuman). He argued that every migrant in danger possesses a life to be saved and a dignity that must not be instrumentalized, calling for accompaniment through welcome and integration.

Additionally, the Bishop highlighted the needs of local viticulturists, noting that true peace requires social justice and laws that support a culture of rights and solidarity. He described the city as a tapestry of diverse people, including workers, professionals, and Muslim brothers and sisters, all contributing to its history.
