Bishop Giuseppe Giuliano announces departure from Lucera-Troia

Bishop Giuseppe Giuliano has issued a farewell message to the Diocese of Lucera-Troia as he concludes his mandate. Having served since October 2016, the 75-year-old bishop has submitted his resignation, a standard procedure upon reaching the age limit, and is now awaiting a decision from Rome.

Speculation within clerical circles suggests that the Vatican may consider merging the Diocese of Lucera-Troia with the Diocese of Foggia. Such a move has caused concern among the local clergy and community, as the loss of a bishop would mean Lucera could lose its status as a cathedral, potentially being downgraded to a co-cathedral to preserve its prestige.

In his farewell address, Bishop Giuliano expressed gratitude to the faithful and acknowledged that while some may not have been pleased with his ministry, he maintains affection and prayer for the community. The final decision regarding the future structure of the diocese rests with the Holy See.
