Pope Leo XIV has accepted the early resignation of Heinrich Timmerevers, the Bishop of Dresden-Meissen. Timmerevers, 74, is stepping down nearly a year before the mandatory retirement age of 75.

A farewell service will be held this Saturday at the Dresden Cathedral, with Heiner Wilmer, Chairman of the German Bishops' Conference, scheduled to deliver the sermon. Following his resignation, Timmerevers plans to remain in Dresden and continue serving the diocese in a pastoral capacity.
