Bishop Mario Ceccobelli celebrated for 60 years of priesthood in Gubbio

The Catholic community in Gubbio gathered on September 20 to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the priestly ordination of Bishop Emeritus Mario Ceccobelli. The celebration coincided with the solemnity of the Dedication of the Cathedral.

During the homily, Ceccobelli reflected on his six decades of ministry, describing his journey through the lens of gratitude. He recalled his nearly 13 years leading the Diocese of Gubbio and his 2004 episcopal appointment, which he approached with the spiritual motto, ‘ask for nothing and refuse nothing.’

A significant moment occurred when Ceccobelli requested forgiveness from the community for his past actions during his tenure as bishop, stating, ‘Forgive me for the harm done while serving as bishop for 13 years among you.’ Bishop Luciano Paolucci Bedini responded by noting that the gesture of asking for forgiveness is essential for maintaining communion within the Church.
