Bishop of Guarda inaugurates social facilities in Penamacor and Gonçalo

Bishop of Guarda, D. José Miguel Barata Pereira, conducted a series of pastoral and social activities across the Guarda region, including visits to Penamacor, Gonçalo, and Covilhã.

In Penamacor, the Bishop joined President António José Seguro for the inauguration of the Nossa Senhora da Conceição nursery, operated by the Santa Casa da Misericórdia. The project, costing over one million euros, was funded by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR) and the Municipality of Penamacor, doubling the facility's capacity from 25 to 50 children. During the event, President Seguro advocated for increased public investment in the interior regions to support families and encourage population stability.

In Gonçalo, the Bishop presided over the blessing of the new Nossa Senhora da Misericórdia Home. This social center, representing an investment of over 1.6 million euros supported by the PRR, expands services for the elderly, including residential care, home support, and day center services.
