Bishop Orofino visits Tursi protest over fuel costs
Monsignor Vincenzo Orofino, the Bishop of Tursi-Lagonegro, visited a protest site at Bivio di Tursi on the Sinnica State Road on Friday, October 23, 2026. The gathering, consisting of farmers and transporters, has been protesting rising fuel costs for several days.
During the visit, the Bishop engaged in dialogue with demonstrators regarding the social and economic impacts of high fuel prices on local industries and the broader cost of living. Orofino expressed the Church's solidarity with the protesters and emphasized the need for policies that value the resources of the Basilicata region, urging that local human and natural wealth be recognized at a national level.
