Bishop Oyedepo criticizes cleric over Nigeria Islamic nation claims

Bishop David Oyedepo, founder of Living Faith Church Worldwide, has strongly criticized Islamic cleric Sheikh Sani Yahaya Jingir following remarks suggesting Nigeria is an Islamic nation. During a political gathering in Kano State, Jingir defended his support for a Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket by claiming that Muslims constitute the majority in the country.

In a viral sermon, Oyedepo challenged these assertions by citing the massive scale of major Christian congregations, such as Redemption Camp, Salvation Ministries, and Dunamis, as evidence against the claim. He questioned the cleric's sanity regarding the statement and predicted that “strange happenings” would occur in Nigeria within the next twelve months.

The cleric's comments have sparked widespread backlash. Paul Enenche, Senior Pastor of Dunamis International Gospel Centre, warned of potential religious tension, while Tony Ojukwu, executive secretary of the National Human Rights Commission, called for an investigation and prosecution of Jingir for alleged hate speech and incitement.
