Bishop Peter Skov-Jakobsen addresses state-church relations
At a conference held at Christiansborg on April 26, 2024, Bishop Peter Skov-Jakobsen delivered a welcome speech regarding the relationship between the state and the Church of Denmark. The event was organized by Helle Bonnesen following the abolition of 'Store Bededag'.
In his address, the Bishop discussed the importance of religious freedom and the protection of the Church's internal matters, such as liturgy and hymnology, from political shifts. He noted that while the Church has administratively adapted to modern times over the last 175 years, it maintains a tradition of theological diversity held together by shared ritual and liturgical books. He emphasized that the Church functions as a community of faith rather than a community of opinion.
