Bishops gather in Rome for meetings with Pope Leo XIV

Catholic bishops from around the world are gathering in Rome for a meeting with Pope Leo XIV, an event that has been delayed for over five years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Monseñor Pablo Jourdan, Bishop of the Diocese of Melo and Treinta y Tres, is participating in the week-long event. His itinerary includes visiting various Vatican Dicasteries to discuss the geographical, cultural, social, and economic aspects of his diocese, as well as spiritual matters. Additionally, he plans to visit the four major basilicas.

In related news regarding his diocese, Bishop Jourdan announced that the city of Río Branco will receive two new priests from the Missionary Servants of the Word congregation at the beginning of next year to ensure more stable pastoral presence in the region.

Separately, Bishop Luis Carlos Lerma Martínez of the Diocese of Nuevo Laredo is also in Rome. He is attending a training course for newly appointed bishops and participated in an audience with Pope Leo XIV to strengthen his pastoral responsibilities and ties with the Church hierarchy.
