Bismil corruption probe leads to arrests and official reassignments
An investigation has been launched in the Bismil district of Diyarbakır following allegations of corruption involving 400 tons of potatoes intended for distribution to needy citizens across 123 neighborhoods. Local village heads (muhtars) filed complaints after the aid failed to reach its intended recipients.
As part of the probe by the Bismil Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, the manager of the Social Assistance and Solidarity Foundation (SYDV), M. İ., and a foundation official, S. T., have been arrested. Local reports suggest that some of the potatoes may have been sold to wholesalers and market vendors instead of being distributed.
The investigation has led to significant bureaucratic shifts. Following reported tensions between Bismil District Governor Recep Hasar and Chief Public Prosecutor Emrah Yaşar, the Ministry of Interior reassigned Hasar to Giresun, while the Ministry of Justice transferred Yaşar to central Diyarbakır. Additionally, the chairmanship of Mehmet Fatih Demirtaş, the Bismil Justice Commission President, has been terminated.
