Bison attacks pregnant woman in Borecka Forest

A 38-year-old pregnant woman was hospitalized in Giżycko after being attacked by a bison in the Borecka Forest. The incident occurred while the woman and her husband, French citizens, were walking along a county road in the Borki forest district.

According to police and the Regional Directorate of State Forests in Białystok, the bison struck the woman in the legs, causing her to fall. She was transported to the hospital via helicopter with a suspected broken leg. Authorities noted that the attack occurred during the bison mating season, a period when animals are more active and their behavior is less predictable. Officials advise maintaining a distance of at least 100 meters from large wildlife such as bison and moose.
