Bistrița-Năsăud labor trends show rising unemployment and AI-assisted complaints

In Bistrița-Năsăud, Romania, recent labor statistics and enforcement actions highlight shifting trends in the local workforce. The unemployment rate in the county rose to 3.42% at the end of July 2026, up from 3.30% in June. According to the County Agency for Employment, 3,814 people were registered as seeking work, with women accounting for 1,999 of those individuals. The largest demographic of unemployed persons is those over the age of 55.

Simultaneously, the Territorial Labor Inspectorate (ITM) has noted a rise in highly documented labor complaints, with many employees utilizing artificial intelligence tools like ChatGPT to structure their petitions and cite specific legal articles. In the first half of 2026, the ITM conducted 483 inspections, resulting in 153 sanctions against 114 employers. Total fines exceeded 1.62 million lei. Common issues reported include unpaid wages, undeclared work, and violations of rest periods.
