Bistro De Waddenzee fishing exhibition opens in Harlingen
The new fishing exhibition, Bistro De Waddenzee, officially opened at DOK5 on August 29 during the Fishing Days. As the first completed component of the upcoming Expeditie Harlingen maritime attraction, the exhibition aims to highlight the history, significance, and future of the Harlingen fishing sector.
Set within a specially designed shipping container, the experience allows visitors to sit at a table and select dishes from a turntable. Each dish is paired with a narrative that explores various aspects of the industry, including its history, the people involved, and contemporary themes such as nature, sustainability, entrepreneurship, and the sector's future.
The project was developed in collaboration with local fishermen, entrepreneurs, heritage organizations, and photographers. It is supported by the Fisheries Development Plan North Netherlands, a collaborative effort involving the municipalities of Harlingen, Het Hogeland, and Noardeast-Fryslân, alongside the provinces of Fryslân and Groningen, to preserve and promote fishing heritage.
