Bitcoin and altcoin markets undergo structural shifts
The cryptocurrency market is experiencing a significant transformation characterized by declining exchange reserves and shifting investor behavior. Data from Glassnode indicates that Bitcoin supplies on major exchanges have dropped sharply over the last year. Out of 11 large exchanges holding more than 1,000 BTC, six have seen substantial decreases in their holdings, suggesting that investors are moving assets into private wallets for long-term storage.
Simultaneously, the altcoin market has seen a cooling period following a period of excessive leverage in the derivatives market. Funding rates for futures contracts have fallen to two-year lows, signaling a temporary reduction in risk and price stabilization.
Cryptocurrency analyst Dennis Liu, known as VirtualBacon, suggests that while Bitcoin remains dominant, the current cycle may favor altcoins in the coming months. Liu notes that the market is still in an early stage, observing that the TOTAL2 index (which excludes stablecoins) relative to Bitcoin's price remains near historical support levels, indicating that altcoins have not yet fully caught up to Bitcoin's recent performance.
