Bitcoin and cryptocurrency market trends show volatility and long-term shifts

Bitcoin and major cryptocurrencies have seen recent price fluctuations. Bitcoin was trading around US$ 79,389, reflecting a slight 24-hour decline despite a weekly gain of 1.39%. Ethereum also experienced a minor 24-hour dip, trading near US$ 2,488, while maintaining weekly growth. A report from BTG Pactual noted that while Bitcoin faced difficulty advancing past the US$ 81,000 to US$ 82,000 range, the short-term structure remains favorable for buyers, though the market is entering a critical zone of definition.

Looking at the broader decade-long evolution of the market, the landscape of altcoins has shifted significantly. While Bitcoin remains dominant, the secondary market has been rebuilt. Projects that were prominent in 2016, such as Steem, Dash, and NEM, have largely lost relevance. They have been replaced by newer assets like Solana, BNB, and Chainlink, which focus on smart contracts, DeFi, and high-performance networks. Ethereum stands out as a major survivor, growing from a market capitalization of approximately US$ 803 million in 2016 to hundreds of billions of dollars in recent years.
