Bitcoin and Ethereum show strong September market performance
Major cryptocurrencies Bitcoin and Ethereum are showing strong performance as September concludes. Bitcoin is currently on track for its best September on record, potentially marking its fourth consecutive month of gains and breaking a historical trend of negative September returns dating back to 2013.
Ethereum is also seeing significant activity, with its monthly performance potentially matching its best September since 2016. However, market data shows a massive 13,000% surge in Ethereum short positions over the last two weeks. While this indicates heavy bearish bets due to resistance levels between $2,722 and $2,822, analysts suggest that a breakout above $2,800 could trigger a sharp short squeeze, driving prices toward $3,000.
On-chain developments also support Ethereum, as Vitalik Buterin has outlined a roadmap for a more scalable and secure blockchain architecture. Meanwhile, Bitcoin's volatility remains influenced by broader economic factors, including recent Federal Reserve interest rate adjustments and legislative developments regarding spot Bitcoin ETFs.
