Bitcoin++ announces Antarctica developer expedition for 2028

The organization bitcoin++ has announced a unique technical event titled “Antarctica: Cold Storage Edition,” scheduled to take place from January 24 to February 5, 2028. The event combines a technical summit with an expedition through the Antarctic Peninsula, departing from and returning to Ushuaia, Argentina.

Designed for a limited group of 22 participants, the gathering utilizes an “unconference” format where attendees propose their own talks, demonstrations, and hackathons. The expedition will cross the Drake Passage to explore locations such as Neko Harbour, Paradise Bay, and Port Lockroy, subject to weather conditions. Despite the remote location, the vessel will be equipped with Starlink connectivity to facilitate working sessions.

The event name plays on the cryptocurrency concept of “cold storage,” which refers to keeping private keys offline for security, by hosting discussions in one of the coldest environments on Earth. Ticket prices range from $14,900 for a four-bed cabin to $16,700 for a shared two-bed cabin, with a 5% discount offered for full prepayments made in bitcoin.
