Bitcoin author predicts BTC will surpass gold in value and stability

Saifedean Ammous, author of ‘The Bitcoin Standard’, has argued that Bitcoin (BTC) is already functioning as money and that its price volatility will decrease as it matures. Ammous’s comments serve as a rebuttal to Professor Lawrence H. White, who suggested in his book ‘Better Money: Gold, Fiat, or Bitcoin?’ that Bitcoin’s fixed supply makes it too unstable to serve as a reliable medium of exchange.

Ammous contends that holding Bitcoin constitutes using it as money and that its current lack of widespread use for daily payments does not disprove its ongoing monetization. He predicts that once Bitcoin’s market capitalization surpasses that of gold, its volatility will be lower than that of the precious metal. Currently, Bitcoin’s market cap of approximately $1.6 trillion is significantly lower than gold’s roughly $29 trillion.

Other industry figures have expressed similar long-term views. Adam Back, CEO of Blockstream, has predicted Bitcoin will rival gold as a monetary hedge due to fiat inflation, while Bitwise research has forecasted Bitcoin could match gold’s market capitalization if prices reach $1 million by 2029.
