Bitcoin Cash overview: CME futures and technical profile

Bitcoin Cash (BCH) is a decentralized cryptocurrency that originated from a hard fork of Bitcoin in August 2017. Designed to function as a peer-to-peer electronic cash system, it utilizes the SHA-256 proof-of-work consensus mechanism and features a UTXO transaction model.

Key technical developments include the implementation of Adaptive Block Layer Adjustment (ABLA), which allows block size limits to adjust based on demand, and the ability to issue tokens and NFTs via CashTokens. While it shares a transaction history and supply cap of 21 million coins with Bitcoin, BCH focuses on lower transaction fees and faster processing through larger blocks.

Recent institutional developments include the announcement of BCH futures listing on the CME, scheduled for September 2026, and a filing by Grayscale for a Bitcoin Cash ETF. Despite these milestones, the network's mining scale remains approximately 0.45% of Bitcoin's, and the asset has experienced significant price volatility.
