Bitcoin editors propose removal of Luke Dashjr following BIP-110 controversy

Bitcoin developer Mark "Murch" Erhardt has formally proposed the removal of Luke Dashjr from the group of Bitcoin Improvement Proposals (BIP) editors. The motion, supported by editor Olaoluwa Osuntokun, follows the controversy surrounding BIP-110.

BIP-110 was a consensus soft fork proposal intended to limit the use of block space for arbitrary data storage. The proposal failed to gain widespread support and reportedly triggered a chain split between nodes requiring the mandatory signaling and the chain followed by the majority of computing power.

Erhardt's recommendation focuses on editorial conduct rather than a ban on Dashjr's development work. He cited conflicts of interest, low daily participation, and a breakdown in communication among editors. Specifically, Erhardt alleged that Dashjr prematurely assigned a BIP number to the proposal and bypassed standard coordination and review processes during the merger of a related pull request.
