Bitcoin market shifts as gold correlation rises and whale activity increases
Bitcoin is experiencing significant shifts in market dynamics, characterized by an increasing correlation with gold and notable movements from large-scale holders. The 90-day correlation coefficient between Bitcoin and gold has reached 0.56, the highest in nearly nine years, while its correlation with the Nasdaq 100 has hit a yearly low. This shift follows the US Treasury's 'QE Lite' initiative, which involved multi-billion dollar bond repurchases, prompting investors to seek hedges against dollar depreciation.
On-chain activity shows significant movement from major holders. A whale holding $21.73 million in Wrapped Bitcoin (WBTC) recently transferred funds to Binance. Additionally, Galaxy Research reported that four long-dormant Bitcoin wallets became active in late August, moving over 202 BTC. One notable wallet, untouched since 2013, moved 146.06 BTC.
Market analysts at XWIN Research note that while the supply and demand structure for Bitcoin is improving due to ETF inflows and institutional buying, the ability of spot demand to absorb supply and break through the $82,000 to $83,000 resistance level remains a critical indicator for future price action.
