Bitcoin enters a mild price correction cycle amid shifting market sentiment

Bitcoin is experiencing a relatively mild price correction compared to historical cycles. As of October 8, 2026, the cryptocurrency was trading at approximately $83,274, representing a 2.64% decrease over 24 hours. While this follows a record peak of $126,080 reached in October 2025, the current drawdown is significantly less severe than previous cycles where Bitcoin often lost between 70% and 85% of its value following a peak.

Tim Sun, a senior researcher at HashKey Group, noted that the duration of market corrections and time spent in bottoming phases have shortened significantly. This shift is attributed to changes in the investor base, moving away from the highly speculative retail-driven cycles of the past.

On the Binance exchange, Bitcoin funding rates have dropped to approximately -0.00215, the lowest level since January of the previous year. This negative funding rate indicates a rise in short positions, as short sellers are currently paying long holders. While this reflects a bearish sentiment among derivatives traders, analysts suggest that a surge in spot demand could force short sellers to close positions, potentially triggering a rapid price recovery.
