Bitcoin experiences volatility as whale accumulation offsets massive liquidations

Bitcoin has recently fluctuated between $80,000 and $83,000, marked by a significant wave of market volatility. A sharp sell-off led to nearly $1.1 billion in liquidations within a single day, primarily affecting long positions. This represents the largest single-day liquidation event since August 21.

Despite the price drop, large-scale investors, often referred to as whales, have been actively increasing their holdings. Data indicates that wallets containing between 10 and 10,000 BTC added approximately 88,987 bitcoin to their supplies over the last month. These large holders now control more than 13.69 million BTC, the highest level in six months.

However, market analysts note challenges for institutional buyers. Rising financing costs and less favorable conditions for corporate purchases may be slowing down the momentum seen from companies like MicroStrategy and US-based spot ETFs. While US spot Bitcoin ETFs recently saw a net inflow of over $526 million, overall demand and the ability of firms to secure new capital remain key factors for future price stability.
